A Series http://www.movieposter.com/posters/archive/main/9/A70-4829
This was a series of three different films, all with different directors.
1) Life Lessons by Martin Scorsese
2) Life Without Zoe by Francis Ford Coppola
3) Oedipus Wrecks by Woody Allen
This was interesting to watch because it involved the filming of three different popular film writers, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, and Woody Allen, working together to produce a film. It is interesting because it has some fascinating film techniques that are not usual to Woody Allen, as I observed from watching his other films. This is an interesting way of filming because it puts all their filming techniques together.
I picked to watch this because after reading many reviews on different Woody Allen films to watch for my fourth film, I read many positive reviews about the short film in this series, Oedipus Wrecks, filmed and starring Woody Allen. However, I chose to watch all the movies in this series because I was intrigued to see both the stories of the other two and how Woody Allen compared or different in terms of filming to these other two producers and it became obvious that Allen in my opinion, had the best plot and filming aspects.

Life Lessons - Martin Scorsese

The idea of this film seems to have stemmed almost completely from Woody Allen because it's similar in theme to that of his other film, Manhattan, in my opinion. I say this because there is an older man with a girl friend who is much younger in age. In this film, it is an artist who has a much younger girlfriend. However, the primary director is Martin Scorsese. This film revolves around the life of Lionel Dobie, a painter and his obsession with his assistant, Paulette, who has a great desire to become a painter. However, Paulette’s interest is on a stand-up comedian, Steve Buscemi. It becomes obvious that Lionel and Paulette have essentially been using each other. Lionel uses her for body and in a sexual manner and Paulette uses him for his connection into the art and social scene of New York. Paulette has a strong desire to return home but Lionel persuades her to stay, as that is the prime place for any artist to be, is in New York. Lionel utilizes his failed relationships as passion for his pieces and his paintings reflect these relationships. This film closes, with him setting eyes on a new assistant he wishes to help him, a new motive for his painting, beginning this repetitive cycle again.
Life Without Zoe - Francis Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola primarily filmed this. However, it is obvious from the credits that it was co-written by Sofia Coppola. This was an extremely short film, only about thirty minutes. It revolves around Zoe, a spoiled rich girl, whose parents, Shire and Giancarlo Giannini, are distant and involved with work, not a part of her life. Instead, she lives with her butler who cares for her.
The plot however had a strong sense of confusion. Essentially, there is a stolen diamond and an Arab princess. Zoe helps in returning the diamond that the princess originally gave her father, Giancarlo Giannini, and since has been stolen.
This movie was short but seemed to be unending, as I lost all my interest about half way through.

Oedipus Wrecks is a comedic film. Sheldon, played by Woody Allen, is a New York lawyer who struggles to get along with Mae Questel, his outrageous and critical mother. He is constantly complaining to his therapist, wishing she would leave him alone. At one point, he brings Lisa, his fiancé , to meet his mother which only ends in his mother embarrassing him. The three of them, accompanied by Lisa’s children, go to a magic show. At the show, his mother is asked onto the stage to be a part of the show. On stage, they place her in a box containing a sword sticking through it. As designed, she disappears but then she never reappears. Mad at first, Sheldon eventually becomes relieved, as he will no longer have to worry about her. All can not end well however, and she returns, this time in the sky above New York City.* After her return, she gets on their nerves even more now, as she has conversations with the whole city below her, telling embarrassing stories about Sheldon and how he should not be getting married. These actions of Mae cause Lisa to leave him. Sheldon is later directed to see Treva, a psychic, in attempt to have his mother return to reality. In the process, Sheldon falls for Treva and after introducing her to his mother, Mae finally approves someone who is with her son and returns to her life form on earth. Perhaps she was just waiting for her son to be with someone worthy?
